The U.S. firm Akin Gump was hired by the Ecuadorian government to address the legal defence of the countervailing duty demand filed by the Coalition of Gulf Shrimp Industries (Cogsi) against the shrimp industry in Ecuador and five other countries.
Following a hearing on Thursday, the Dept. of Commerce had decided to move forward with a countervailing duty investigation of subsidized shrimp imports from seven countries.
The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has protested the US Department of Commerce (DOC)’s acceptance of the petition against Vietnamese frozen warm-water shrimp which contain unreasonable allegations.
