HungCa Company with integrated supply chain

HungCa Company Ltd was officially found on February 6, 2006 with a processing factory and 250 hectares of Pangasius farming areas in Hong Ngu, Tam Nong, Thanh Binh districts of Dong Thap province. These aquaculture areas can supply over 50,000 MT of raw fish annually for processing. By the end of 2006, HungCa established a representative office in Ho Chi Minh city to promote its export activities.

Nonstop growth

In 2008, HungCa built its second processing factory with designed capacity of 150 MT of materials per day and applied quality management systems of ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 22000. Right after that, the company set up another processing workshop to increase the production capacity to 600 MT of processed products per month.

In 2009, HungCa cooperated with Van Y Join-stock Company and Hoan Chau Company to construct a foodstuff processing factory with the area of six hectares in the Binh Thanh Industrial Zone. This factory was invested with US$12.6 millions and specialised in fish fillet, canned and value added products with Japanese and European modern technologies.

After six years of operation, HungCa now owns three subsidiary companies, two processing factories with the production capacity of 370 MT of fish per day, over 300 hectares of fish farming areas, 300 staff and over 3,000 workers. The annual revenues of the company have increased from VND89 billions in the first year of operation to VND2,036 billions in 2011. It has provided a thousand of employment opportunities for local people.

With continuing efforts in business expansion and quality improvement, HungCa have penetrated in over 50 countries on the world, from EU, Russia to Middle East and become one of the largest Pangasius exporters in Viet Nam. Besides promoting traditional import markets, HungCa always search for opportunities to explore other potential markets with its diversified and high quality products and good customer services.

Improving the supply chain

During its development process, HungCa has always taken a lead in developing an  integrated production supply from culture, processing, and export. Therefore, the  company has developed stably and survived either material shortage or surplus.

As the company has owned 312 hectares of high-tech fish farming areas and cooperated with many catfish culture households in Dong Thap province, HungCa still collected enough materials for full-scale production in 2011 while various companies fell short of raw materials for processing.

HungCa has been certified with GlobalG.A.P and other certifications such as SGS, HALAL, BRC, ISF, HACCP, ... Complying with international standards on water intake and discharge, quality assurance, aquaculture and processing techniques is costly. However, the cultured fish will be less vulnerable to diseases and aquaculture productivity can increase by 3-5%, product quality improved and production costs decreased.

In 2012, HungCa continues to invest tens of billions dongs in constructing 50-hectare Nhu Y farms in two communes of Phu Tho and Phu Thanh B in Tam Nong district, expanding Pangasius and giant freshwater shrimp areas to 400 hectares. The company becomes the owner of the largest aquaculture areas in Mekong River delta and in the country. At the same time, it also ink material purchasing contracts with shrimp farmers to develop new processed products.

Always seeking perfection

Always bearing in mind the doctrine of “good heart” and “trust”, HungCa leaders and its staff have brought significant achievements for the company.

The HungCa has been named as one of the country’s top ten entrepreneurs twice; given the Viet Nam Gold Quality Seafood award; titled Viet Gold Star triple times; Viet Nam Strong Brands; and Reputed Export Enterprise. It ranked among the Viet Nam top 500 biggest enterprises - VNR 500 for three times and won the QC100 TQM International Quality Crown Award London 2010.

On its sixth birthday, February 06, 2012, HungCa launched the project of constructing an

aquafeed factory with the designed capacity of 800 MT of products per day and a fish meal and oil processing factory with the capacity of 300 MT of products per day, adopting the most cutting-edge European technology. Total investment budget for the project will be VND250 billions. It will be based on and area of 8 hectares. These factories are expected to go into operation in December 2012 and produce about 290,000 MT of aquafeed per year for aquaculture activities inside the company and Mekong River delta.

According to CEO Mr. Tran Van Hau, the construction of aquafeed and fish oil processing factories helps the company to further integrate its production chain, from culture to processing and to export and take advantage of the available fish by-products to re-process into value added products, bring economic returns and jobs for local people.

“The optimal performance of the Pangasius supply chain is our sustainable development  focus,” said Hau.
