According to Peoples Newspaper, the province’s seafood export processing industry now is struggling with difficulties. Ca Mau is the home to 370 seafood-processing factories but only 40% of them can make profit. The remainder are operating at only 40% of their designed capacity.
To fulfill the target of US$1 billion seafood export turnover set up for 2012, Ca Mau’s People Committee calls for developing industrial and improved-extensive shrimp farming to ensure raw material supply for processing factories.
The companies were urged to take initiative in looking for new markets as well as strengthening the traditional ones. The companies should reduce input cost, save the energy and increase their competitiveness.
Besides, the committee asked commercial banks to give loans at regulated interest rates and to restructure debts to support enterprises.
