According to the provincial department of aquaculture, more than 90% of shrimp farms in Nghe An are reported to have a bumper harvest this year. The figure even exceeds 95% for Quynh Luu district. Shrimp farming area amounts to 1,500ha in the first six months of the year, including nearly 1,300ha for vannamei. Epidemics result in a shortage of shrimp in southern provinces; therefore, shrimp are sold at high price and brings high profits for farmers. Currently, shrimp are sold at VND90,000-140,000/kilo at various counts.
Higher shrimp output this year is attributed to effective epidemic prevention and favorable weather. The average output is around 7MT/ha, some farms even reported 15-20MT/ha. Farmers are now preparing ponds for the second crop.
