VIETFISH NEWS - Vol. 2 - Issue 29, May 10, 2010
In 2009, there were nearly 50,000 shrimp farming households in the province, both in intensive and semi-intensive models. Last year, they produced 60,000MT of shrimp in total, making Soc Trang one of the highest farmed shrimp output provinces in Viet Nam.
In April 2010, the shrimp produced in Soc Trang were displayed at the European Seafood Exposition (ESE) in Brussels in order to increase the province’s shrimp brand name recognition among customers worldwide.
In a seminar at the ESE, Soc Trang representatives introduced to foreign partners, investors, importers, scientists and international organizations about the province’s aquaculture potentials, and its underway project to Standardize Inputs, Farming Process and Brand Name for the Shrimp Sector.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Deputy Director of Soc Trang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said the launched project together with this brand-name promotion seminar will help the province’s international standard compliant and safe shrimp products to enter the world markets.
