Phu Yen - Bumper harvest of ocean tuna

According to Phu Yen’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, local fishers have been enjoying a bumper harvest of ocean tuna for more than one month. Most of fishing boats catches 20-40 tunas a trip, giving an average output of 1-2MT of tuna per trip. It is reported that fishing boat owners earn hundreds of millions dongs each fishing trip.

The tuna landings in Phu Yen has increased week after week for the whole month. Sometimes fishers can catch as much as 300-400MT of ocean tuna a week. So far this year, the province’s ocean tuna output netted more than 3,700MT, two-fold increase against the same period last year.
